Continue.

LOS ANGELES (AUGUST 2018) Los Angeles is a
city bursting with narratives. The cradle of cinema,
our sun-kissed seaside metropolis is famous all
over the world for both manufacturing stories (as
seen in theaters and on your streaming device)
as well as collecting them—in behind-the-scenes
tales of the toil, triumph and occasional heartbreak
experienced on the road to finally seeing one’s
passions put onto the screen. So when you come
to the LA Film Festival, you’re really not there just
for your own entertainment and edification.  When
you come, you’re part of an epic, ongoing meta-
story about creativity and cultural evolution. Your
role in this story is to luxuriate in the glow of fresh
voices and shape how those voices will thrive and
survive, based solely on your reaction. Your role
is to be in on the ground floor of what all of our
filmmakers hope will be the start of a long and
exciting career. Exciting!

was the first match between the countries in women’s

service.

Chile’s captain, Christiane Endler, who plays professionally

LOS ANGELES, CA (JAN. 21, 2019)   In 2015 our team
produced 50 Feet from Syria - focused on the civilian
impact of the Syrian conflict. This was the first of a triad of
films focused on one of the great humanitarian crises of
our time – the plight of refugees in a global and intercon-
nected world. In a political environment increasingly hostile
to immigrants and refugees, documenting the real-life plight
of those fleeing war and oppression is more vital and im-
portant than ever.  LIFEBOAT bears witness to refugees
desperate enough to risk their lives in rubber boats leaving
Libya in the middle of the night, despite a high probability of
drowning. With few resources but certain that civil society
must intervene, volunteers from a German non-profit risk
the waves of the Mediterranean to pluck refugees from
sinking rafts. In a real-life context with dire consequences,
LIFEBOAT puts a human face on one of the world’s
greatest contemporary, global crises and provides a
spark of hope surrounding how civil society can intervene
in the refugee crisis in a meaningful way.

Her camera captures incredible stories of loss, laughter

choice–whether or not to flee the city to protect her
daughter’s life, when leaving means abandoning the
struggle for freedom for which she has already sac-

Mesa and Newport Beach, had a vision to transform a
once boat-building house, by using all reclaimed
materials and vintage objects, into a full service rest-
aurant and live music and art venue now known as
Boathouse Collective. The design maintains the building’s
historical and rustic character while exhibiting an artistic
and creative aesthetic that suits the industrial Westside
Costa Mesa neighborhood … Continue

LOS ANGELES, CA (MARCH 2020) The untold story of
Marthe Cohn, a feisty young woman who joined the
French Army during WWII after Hitler's rise to power.
After keeping silent for almost 60 years, Marthe now
shares the extraordinary story of how she managed to
beat the odds and fight the Nazis as a spy after her
family fled to the south of France and a sister was sent
to Auschwitz. She used her German accent & blond hair
to pose as a German nurse and slipped behind enemy
lines to gather essential information about Nazi move-
ments for Allied commanders.
At the age of 98, she still tours the world for lectures
and promotes her message to people of all generations.
Her harrowing journey is told with reverence, while
her joie de vivre shines through, filling the film with hope
for the future.

Nicola Hens main interest in each project is to shape the
film’s character by thoughtfully defining the audio-visual
language in accordance with the subject and to find its
very own and unique way of storytelling.

What Happens If Workers Cutting Up the Nation’s
Meat Get Sick?

Here’s what has happened in the meatpacking industry
in the last week alone: A federal food safety inspector
in New York City, who oversaw meat processing plants,
died from the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.  A
poultry worker in Mississippi, employed by America’s third
largest chicken company, tested positive for the virus,
causing a half-dozen workers to self-quarantine. Another
worker in South Dakota, employed by the world’s largest
pork producer, also tested positive.  In Georgia, dozens
of workers walked out of a Perdue Farms chicken plant,
demanding that the company do more to protect them.
And Tyson Foods told ProPublica on Friday that “a limited
number of team members” had tested positive for the
disease.  As COVID-19 makes its way across the country,
leading to panic grocery buying in state after state, the
stresses on the nation’s food supply chain have ratcheted
ever higher. But in industries like meatpacking, which rely
on often grueling shoulder-to-shoulder work, so have the
risks to workers’ health… continue.
